Fox Sports' New CFB Studio Show Will Bring Out New Side Of Meyer

Meyer said he won't be prone to taking shots at coaches and players in his roleFOX SPORTS

Fox Sports President of National Networks Mark Silverman said former Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer, who is joining the net's new college football studio show, is "coachable," and the other personalities on the show will "bring out a side of Urban that people have not seen," according to Teddy Greenstein of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. After Meyer stepped away from coaching at Florida in '11, he "worked as an analyst for ESPN," where he was "stiff." Silverman said, "He was still in the coaching mode, between jobs. Now this is what he is focused on. I've noticed a looseness and an enjoyment." Greenstein noted Meyer "gave Silverman enough of an assurance to prompt Fox to push forward with an aggressive hiring spree." On the new show, Meyer will join host Rob Stone, as well as former CFB stars Reggie Bush, Brady Quinn and Matt Leinart. Silverman said, "Once Urban indicated a strong interest, we asked: Who is our dream team? We wanted big names, people known for major accomplishments in the last 10 or 15 years." Meyer said, "Being personal, taking shots at players or coaches, that will not happen. However, I can be critical of a moment, decision-making and those type of things. My job is to analyze. If to be a great sportscaster, you have to hammer people, then I'm in the wrong" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 7/16).
