Marketplace Roundup

THE ATHLETIC's Pablo Maurer reported the U.S. Soccer Federation is "seeking to prevent one of its own official partners" -- Pennsylvania-based Kwik Goal -- from "trademarking a proposed slogan: 'the official goal of soccer.'" The USSF "suggests that Kwik Goal's proposed trademark on that phrase should be rejected by the appeal board" of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office because it is "deceptively misdescriptive." The federation "currently has a partnership with Kwik Goal" that runs through '22, and in the filing it "suggests that should Kwik Goal continue to use the proposed slogan after that date, the general public would assume that Kwik Goal remained an official partner" of the USSF (THEATHLETIC.com, 7/17).

Additionally, TVG will produce the Breeders' Cup Players' Show, a live, wagering-focused telecast of the World Championships that is sent to simulcast outlets around the world (TVG).

GETTING OUTDOORSY: WOMEN'S WEAR DAILY's Jean Palmieri notes Fila is "heading to the mountains, the woods and the canyons" for its newest collection called Explore, a "limited-edition assortment of footwear, apparel and accessories for men and women that will have a soft launch at ComplexCon in Chicago." Fila will "open experiential pop-up stores" in N.Y., L.A. and several other cities around the world on July 26 (WWD.com, 7/18).
