Kansas To Introduce General Beer, Wine Sales At Games In '19

Kansas becomes the sixth Big 12 school to approve general alcohol sales at football gamesGETTY IMAGES

Univ. of Kansas AD Jeff Long said that fans attending KU home football games "now will be able to buy beer and wine," beginning with the Jayhawks’ Aug. 31 season opener, according to Benton Smith of the LAWRENCE JOURNAL-WORLD. With the introduction of widely available alcoholic beverages, KU also will "no longer allow fans to re-enter the stadium once they leave it." Long yesterday said that "no such decision has been reached" on whether a similar policy could be coming soon to Allen Fieldhouse for men's basketball. Long said, "The fan experience in Allen Fieldhouse is the best in the country. Beer and wine will continue to be available in selected private spaces in the fieldhouse, but we haven’t yet made a determination about expanding that to the concession stands.” Smith notes for the past two years, KU also "tested out beer and wine sales at concession stands at home baseball, softball and soccer games." KU becomes the sixth Big 12 school to "make beer and wine available for purchase on football game days" (LAWRENCE JOURNAL-WORLD, 7/17).
