Weekend Plans With Everfi Head Of Global Partnerships Jon Chapman

Much of Chapman's focus is on Everfi's partnerships with various leagues like the NHLEverfi

JON CHAPMAN helped co-found Everfi in '08, and now 11 years later he finds himself traveling all over the world in his role as President of global partnerships. Everfi, a DC-based educational technology company, has partnerships with the NFL and United Way, as well as MLB and the NHL. But it's a recent alignment with the EPL that's taking up most of Chapman's time these days, as the company continues to grow. Chapman caught up with THE DAILY to dish on working with some of the premier leagues in sports, his favorite places to travel and his family's most recent trip across the pond.

WEARING MANY HATS: I recently got back from London after meeting with the EPL, and they’ve got a really innovative program called Primary Stars, which focuses on elementary age students. We are helping them bring that program to the U.S. It’s a lot of fun working with this variety of leagues, and the way it came about is really just that the sports world is a small one. If you do well by one of the leagues, there’s a really strong network effect. They look to each other and say, "Hey, this has gone really well." Then at times we’ve worked with individual clubs. As part of our NFL program around character education, we may have the Eagles come to us and say, "We’re really interested in bringing a STEM-education program to the Philadelphia Community." Something along those lines.

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS: Fortunately, I try not to be on the road during too many weekends because I’m away so much during the week. I’m spending 2-3 days a week on the road at least. London has become a fast favorite destination. I’ve been there probably a dozen times in the last 18 months now as we architect this partnership with the EPL. It’s a really cool city with obviously a lot of history, as are pretty much all of the major cities in Europe. I combined work with pleasure this past Christmas and New Year's Eve on a holiday trip with my family. I have two boys (14 and 11) and my wife, KIRSTEN. We went over to England to catch a EPL match the Saturday after Christmas and saw Tottenham play the Wolverhampton Wanderers at Wembley. I got to connect with professional colleagues at the EPL suite but also was able to introduce my boys to world class futbol. Then after that we did a bunch of traveling across the countryside.

IN THE MEANTIME: I really enjoy fly fishing, although in DC I don’t necessarily live close to ideal conditions for it. This past Memorial Day weekend I drove with my family to the border of Virginia and Tennessee to fish the South Holston River, a world class river for brown trout. I've gotten my boys and wife into it as well. I’m also a die-hard Boston sports fan through and through after growing up in Massachusetts. I’ve successfully managed to brainwash my children so on occasion we also might make it up to a Patriots game.
