Crikey! A's Use Australian Curse Word In Liam Hendriks Ad

An attempt by the A's to congratulate P Liam Hendriks in his native Australia on making the All-Star Game included an "inadvertent" use of local profanity, according to Gary Peterson of the San Jose MERCURY NEWS. The team took out a full-page ad in The Australian newspaper on Wednesday honoring the Perth native, including the phrase "The Stars Are Green And Gold In Oakland" -- a reference to the Australia national team colors -- and the "organizational slogan" of #RootedInOakland. However, the word "rooted" means "very different things in Oakland and Perth." The Santa Rosa Press Democrat's Phil Barber earlier this season tweeted that "rooted" is a "very, very naughty word" in Australia (MERCURYNEWS.com, 7/11).
