Buck Stops Here: Antetokounmpo Sues Over "Greek Freak" Merch

Antetokounmpo has sold tens of thousands of dollars worth of products under the "Greek Freak" markNBAE/GETTY IMAGES

Bucks F Giannis Antetokounmpo has "sued a Pennsylvania artist who was selling 'Greek Freak' merchandise," according to Alexa Buechler of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. Antetokounmpo "registered the nickname" with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in February '18, and he has since "applied for trademark over the variation with his NBA jersey numbers in it: 'Greek Fr34k.'" Antetokounmpo also has "sold tens of thousands of dollars of products under the 'Greek Freak' mark." The artist, Jinder Bhogal, is accused of "advertising and selling 'Greek Freak' merchandise on his website, his Instagram and his Facebook." Bhogal was also "selling merchandise with Antetokounmpo's likeness, including T-shirts with his face." Antetokounmpo's lawyers "sent a cease and desist letter to Bhogal on May 3." Bhogal did not respond to the letter, but he "removed the 'Greek Freak' collection on his website." However, the images of the collection "remained listed on Facebook." The lawsuit claims Bhogal's products were "misleading customers who thought Bhogal's merchandise was affiliated with Antetokounmpo" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 7/11).
