N.C. State BOT Approves Sale Of Beer, Wine At Athletic Events

The N.C. State BOT has "voted unanimously to approve the sale of beer and wine at athletic events," according to Joe Giglio of the Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER. The school has "more work to do before the first adult beverage could be sold" at the football team's home opener against ECU on Aug. 31, but yesterday it "took a step closer to becoming a reality." Alcohol sales at N.C. State football and basketball games had been "confined to the luxury suites for high-end booster club donors." General sales will "change the equation for the gameday experience at Carter-Finley Stadium in the fall and at PNC Arena for the college basketball season" (Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 7/11).

IT TAKES TIME: Tennessee AD Phillip Fulmer said the school is still "in the process" of determining whether beer and wine will be sold at Neyland Stadium during football games. 247SPORTS.com's Wes Rucker noted UT from the beginning was considered by some in the SEC as one of the "potential spots where alcohol would be served sooner rather than later, but Fulmer insisted those decisions haven’t been made." Appearing on Nashville-based WGFX-FM this week, Fulmer said, "We’re headed down that road, but I can’t sit here and tell you that we’re gonna do it ... or exactly what we’re gonna do with it. We’ll know more later" (247SPORTS.com, 7/10).

SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY: In Columbia, Matt Connolly noted the sale of alcohol at Clemson's Memorial Stadium "isn't coming" any time soon. Clemson AD Dan Radakovich said that the school has had "no discussions about changing their policy" (Columbia STATE, 7/11).
