Since retiring in '16, Manning has met with many major networks but has ultimately passed on booth jobsGETTY IMAGES

YAHOO SPORTS' Charles Robinson cited sources as saying that Peyton Manning "passed on a lucrative 'Monday Night Football' opportunity" with ESPN in April "largely due" to a '19 schedule that included a pair of Giants games featuring his brother, Eli. The schedule also has a "handful of other games that included former Manning teammates or friends." For two straight offseasons, Manning has "fielded meetings and calls" from major networks but ultimately passed. Sources said that that "won't change as long as Eli Manning's games are part of the equation" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 7/1).

FINDING YOUR VOICE: Fox Sports' Colin Cowherd said he became most comfortable as a sports commentator "between the ages of 32-33." Cowherd, now 55, said, "I stopped listening to other broadcasters. I felt my whole life I listened to other broadcasters, and in my 20s, I sounded like a collection of multiple people. Then ... I got comfortable doing it my way." Cowherd: "I always tell young broadcasters not to get in a hurry to get to a big network. Go make a bunch of mistakes in Spokane (or) Midland, Texas, or Des Moines, Iowa and get better" (Spokane SPOKESMAN-REVIEW, 7/2).
