Bills Still Mulling Stadium Options, Won't Ask Fans To Break Bank

Pegula said whatever decision the Bills make stadium-wise will be in the best interest of the fansGETTY IMAGES

Bills co-Owner Terry Pegula said that he "won't ask fans to break the bank when it comes to deciding whether to renovate the team's current stadium in the suburbs or build a new one downtown," according to John Wawrow of the AP. Pegula said, "Whatever we're going to do stadium-wise is going to be in the best interest of our fans. We have the interest of our fans at heart, and what we do will be heavily weighted -- whatever the plan is -- toward the benefit of our fans." Wawrow noted the Bills have "hired a private firm to conduct a feasibility study on determining the team's future home." The study is "due to be completed sometime this summer and lead to a decision on whether the Bills will continue playing at New Era Field in suburban Orchard Park, New York, or relocate" closer to the city of Buffalo. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell reiterated the NFL's "preference in a new facility." Bills co-Owner Kim Pegula said, "Roger knows where we stand. We weren't at all upset or thought that he was trying to say anything differently." She added, "It's a big, big nut to crack. It's going to take some patience on everyone's part" (AP, 6/29).

ON THE ICE: The AP's Wawrow noted Terry Pegula has been co-owner of the Sabres for over eight years and "sees promise" in the team moving forward. Pegula said, "The one thing I think about is it’s time to start winning." He added, "I don’t take any of these poor results we’ve had as a team, I don’t take that personally. I just try to get better.” More Pegula: "Losing is the most painful thing. When you go through a rebuild, you would still like to continue winning" (AP, 6/29).
