Inaugural 40 Yards Of Gold Draws 2,000-3,000 Fans To BB&T Center

A crowd of about 2,000 to 3,000 fans at BB&T Center "provided an electric atmosphere" on Saturday as 49ers WR Marquise Goodwin won the inaugural 40 Yards of Gold tournament, according to David Furones of the South Florida SUN SENTINEL. Hosted by former NFLer Chad Johnson, an official attendance for the event is "yet to be released." Goodwin "came out of the 16-player field victorious," and won $1M after "navigating through four rounds in the bracket-format tournament that was broadcast on Pay-Per-View." Johnson hopes the tournament can "grow into a marquee event in football," like the Slam Dunk Contest is to the NBA or the Home Run Derby in MLB. Johnson said, “Watch what happens next year. We’re going to have to turn guys away" (South Florida SUN SENTINEL, 7/1).
