Dallas-based attorney Richard Mithoff in a letter addressed to Astros Owner Jim Crane "provided the first public details about the child who was hit in the head May 29 by a line drive" at Minute Maid Park and "suffered a fractured skull," according to David Barron of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. While "no legal action has been filed," attorneys said that Mithoff’s letter "represents the first public overture to the Astros toward conversations that could lead to a financial settlement." Mithoff said, "We wanted to see whether any conversations can take place that can lead to a discussion of options that would make sense for the fans and the ballparks and the clubs. I know Jim Crane and know him to be a responsible owner, and I think he will do the right thing.” Meanwhile, the Astros said that they are "studying options for additional netting but at this point have no plans to make any additions" during the '19 season. Mithoff "would not elaborate on the nature of discussions he hopes to have with the Astros" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 6/27).
