Becherer Leaving Homestead-Miami Speedway For ISC Role

Homestead-Miami Speedway announced that track President MATTHEW BECHERER is stepping down from that role to move to the newly created role of VP/Consumer Sales for parent company ISC. Replacing Becherer will be Homestead Senior VP/Operations AL GARCIA. Becherer, who had been thought to be in the running to replace retiring Talladega Superspeedway Chair GRANT LYNCH, will report to ISC President JOHN SAUNDERS. Saunders described the promotion as a “reflection on the leadership skills that he has displayed within our company for the past 20 years.” Garcia, who will now report to ISC Exec VP & COO JOIE CHITWOOD III, is a Miami native and seasoned motorsports exec in the area, having started his career working on the Miami Grand Prix sports car event in ’85 with Homestead Founder RALPH SANCHEZ and having worked at the track since it opened in ’95. The transition comes at an inflection point for Homestead because it will lose its longtime slot as NASCAR Cup Series’ season finale after this year, when it will transition to a March date. Homestead is also in talks to host the well-known Ultra electronic music dance festival.
