Scherzer, Ovechkin Featured Together In Local Papa John's Spot

Nationals P Max Scherzer and Capitals LW Alex Ovechkin will be "featured in a new commercial" for Papa John's Pizza that will air in DC, Virginia and Maryland, according to Scott Allen of the WASHINGTON POST. The 30-second spot was "filmed over two days in March and April" and shows the two athletes "on a conference call with a marketer soliciting ideas for a new pizza special." Scherzer asks, “What if you get two pizzas, but they both gotta be different?” Scherzer, who has one blue eye and one brown eye, makes the suggestion "before subtly twitching his eyebrows." Ovechkin later refers to his "toothless grin" when he asks, "What if we get a pizza, and there’s always one piece missing?” The Nationals were "among the teams that cut ties with Papa John’s last summer," but "revived the partnership about a month later, noting that its relationship was with the locally owned and operated franchisees in D.C., Maryland and Virginia" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 6/21).
