People & Personalities: Toronto Radio Stalwart McCown Off CJCL

It was not immediately clear if McCown resigned or was let go by the stationGETTY IMAGES

The CP noted longtime "Prime Time Sports" host Bob McCown "will leave his position" on Friday. McCown has hosted the show, which airs on Toronto-based CJCL-AM and "nationally on television on Sportsnet 360, since its inception" in '89. McCown's future plans "were not available." However, he tweeted that "speculation concerning his retirement is '100% inaccurate.'" It "wasn’t clear" if McCown, who agreed to a multiyear contract extension in December '17, "resigned or was let go." A rotating roster of hosts will "fill in over the summer" (CP, 6/20).

ALWAYS THANKFUL: In Boston, Chad Finn writes one of the "blessings of this season" for Red Sox NESN analyst Jerry Remy is the lack of talk about him "missing games." After "suffering a relapse of lung cancer last August, he left the booth to receive treatment and missed the Red Sox’ run to the World Series." Remy announced he was "cancer-free in November, and just last Thursday received similarly good news after his latest scan came back clean." Remy is "traveling less this year," though. He is "scheduled to do 85-90 games" (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/21).

MAKING THE SHIFT: In Philadelphia, Angel Franco noted former MLBer Chase Utley made his debut last week "on the other side of the camera as a Dodgers analyst for Spectrum SportsNet LA, doing pregame and postgame analysis." Utley said that he is "still adjusting to his role as an on-screen personality." He said, "I have a handful of shows still on my plate, but so far it’s been fun and interesting. That side of the game is a little bit different than playing, but I think I can bring a different perspective that others can’t" (INQUIRER.com, 6/20).

WELCOME TO THE TEAM: In Indianapolis, Robert General reported local sports anchor and reporter Larra Overton "will join the Colts as the team's new producer and on-air talent on July 15." For the past five years, Overton has "worked full-time" at WTTV-CBS. Overton will "serve as the producer for Colts Productions like 'With the Next Pick' and 'Colts Life'" (INDYSTAR.com, 6/18).
