Padres Involved In Local Military, Education Charitable Efforts

The Padres launched a "community giveback program to mark" the team's 50-year MLB anniversary, and will partner with Sycuan Casino Resort and other groups to contribute $1M this year to 11 "local programs that serve children and military families or enhance education," according to Diane Bell of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. Padres President of Business Operations Erik Greupner said that it is the team's "thank you to San Diego." In May, the team "gave $50,000 of a $100,000 contribution to underwrite local Big Brothers Big Sisters match-ups." On Monday, the team "offered a sneak peek at the Padres Community Room in the soon-to-open Veterans Village Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic in Mission Valley serving veterans in the post-9/11 era." The room is "enhanced with baseball-themed murals." Greupner "emphasized the Padres' strong ties to San Diego's large military community." The team also will soon be "reaching out to the USO, Rady Children's Hospital, Monarch School, Make-a-Wish Foundation, MCRD, Boys & Girls Club (Oakes branch), a children's hospital in Tijuana and other local causes" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 6/20).
