New York May Have To Wait Longer For Mobile Sports Betting

Mobile sports betting is "all but dead in New York, thanks to a stalemate among top Democrats in the state Assembly that is unlikely to be resolved before the legislative session ends," according to Hogan & Hicks of the N.Y. POST. Assembly sponsor Gary Pretlow said that Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie has "sided with Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has long argued an amendment to the state Constitution is needed" to allow mobile sports betting. Current state law "limits in-person sports betting to four upstate casinos ... and tribal casinos." The bill still needs to "clear two key committees before the entire Assembly could vote on it -- which is unlikely with lawmakers expected to finish up by June 19." The measure "sailed through the state Senate" yesterday, despite the Assembly’s "inaction" (N.Y. POST, 6/18).
