Proposal Sees Browns Keeping Headquarters In Berea Through '39

The Browns will "keep their headquarters" in Berea, Ohio, through '39, per a proposed lease agreement "hammered out by the city and the team," according to Mary Kilipatrick of the Cleveland PLAIN DEALER. The news is a "win for the city," which counts the team as its "largest income taxpayer." The Browns contribute about 25% of the city’s annual income from tax income. In recent years, that number has been "well over" $3M. The city of Berea "owns the Browns headquarters and training facility, and leases it back to the team" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 6/18). In Akron, Nate Ulrich notes the verbal agreement between the two sides "won’t be voted on by the Berea City Council until mid-July at the earliest." Berea became the home of Browns' HQ in '91, and prior to the '16 season, the team completed a $15M renovation project on the training facility (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 6/18).
