Eagles Make Internal Promotions After Douglas Hired Away By Jets

Roseman has both lost and regained GM duties during his time with the Eagles front officegetty images

The Eagles promoted Dir of Player Personnel ANDY WEIDL to VP/Player Personnel, replacing new Jets GM JOE DOUGLAS, according to Les Bowen of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. Weidl's promotion was among a "host of front-office moves" the team made, including Exec VP/Football Operations HOWIE ROSEMAN "reclaiming the general manager title he lost when he was demoted by CHIP KELLY" in '15. Eagles Owner JEFFREY LURIE "restored Roseman to power the next year but resisted calling him" GM. Meanwhile, Weidl's brother, CASEY, was also promoted from Player Personnel Coordinator to Dir of Scouting Operations. The team also promoted Dir of College Scouting IAN CUNNINGHAM to Assistant Dir of Player Personnel. Among the other new titles: Dir of Pro Scouting BRANDON BROWN; Dir of Football Administration BRYCE JOHNSTON; Football Operations Dir KATIE DAVID; and Assistant Dir of Pro Scouting MAX GRUDER (INQUIRER.com, 6/13). In Philadelphia, Dave Zangaro wrote Weidle's promotion was a "seemingly obvious move for the Eagles because their system has been working." Weidl is not a "clone" of Douglas, but this move will "allow some consistency in the front office" (NBCSPORTSPHILADELPHIA.com, 6/13).
