Yankees' Clint Frazier's Custom Cleats Turning Heads

Yankees RF Clint Frazier is as "far removed from the cookie cutter mold of beardless, buttoned-up Yankees" fans are accustomed to, as he is "turning heads off the field for his custom cleats," according to Ben Felderstein of COMPLEX. In April, Frazier sent a pair of "Shadow" Air Jordan 1 sneakers to N.Y.-based Custom Cleats to have "metal spikes placed into their sole, transforming them into game-ready cleats." Since then, Frazier has "caught the eye of sneakerheads and the Bronx Bombers faithful alike." Frazier also has worn "spike-equipped versions" of many Jordan sneakers. While the cleats are "not exactly compliant with the Yankees classic pinstripe uniforms," they do fit MLB's "updated rule policy" as of last season. Cleats "used to have to align with a team's designated primary shoe color," but they now "have the ability to stretch those rules a bit." Frazier was signed to Adidas' baseball roster before the '19 season began, but he said, "I called my agent and said I wanted to go solo." Frazier's style "aligns perfectly" with MLB's current "youth movement, propelled by campaigns the likes of its 'Let The Kids Play' commercials as well as its three-day long Player's Weekend event." For Frazier, the end "goal is his very own Jordan I collaboration." He said, "In the end, I want a Jordan I for me" (COMPLEX.com, 6/12).
