CFL Tiger-Cats Move Up Start Time To Accommodate NBA Finals

The CFL Hamilton Tiger-Cats are "moving the start time" for tomorrow's season opener against the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Tim Hortons Field up by half an hour to 7:00pm ET due to NBA Finals Raptors-Warriors Game 6, according to Steve Milton of the HAMILTON SPECTATOR. During the Ticats game, some TV screens around the stadium will be "tuned into the basketball broadcast" beginning at 9:00pm. Other video screens, "including the 3,400-square-foot video board in the north end zone, will stay with the normal football game-day content." Once the football is over, the "video board and all stadium screens will switch to the basketball telecast and the Tiger-Cats will open the stadium gates to the general public to allow them to view the remainder of the Raptors-Warriors game for free." Raptors fans can also "opt to go to FirstOntario Centre where the game will also be shown" (HAMILTON SPECTATOR, 6/12). Both the CFL and NBA games will "air live on TSN," and in Regina, "both will be shown in Mosaic Stadium's MaxTron screen." There will be a "little overlap in the broadcasts." However, the CFL said that fans "will be able to watch 'most' of Game 6" (LEADERPOST.com, 6/11).

YOU GET A BREAK! The CP noted Oprah Winfrey's "plans to bring her Your Path Made Clear speaking engagement to Scotiabank Arena on Friday have been cancelled." If the Raptors lose, they "would return to their home city for Game 7 on Sunday night." That makes organizing a different event in the Toronto arena "more difficult because the basketball court would likely have to be disassembled to accommodate Oprah’s stage and seating arrangements" (CP, 6/11).
