Angels Put Focus On Staying In Anaheim With New Hires

The City of Anaheim has formed its own team to negotiate with the Angels on potential plansGETTY IMAGES

Angels officials have "brought more experts on board to advise them on the potential to develop land" around Angel Stadium, according to Alicia Robinson of the ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER. Angels President John Carpino said that "'Anaheim is their focus' right now, and the team has hired an architect, engineer and financial adviser to its consulting team." Angels spokesperson Marie Garvey "declined to name specific hires." She added that the move "doesn’t mean the Angels have ruled out other options, such as relocating to Long Beach." Meanwhile, the City of Anaheim has "formed a team to negotiate with the Angels" that will be made up of Mayor Harry Sidhu, City Manager Chris Zapata and City Attorney Robert Fabela. Zapata said that the city has also hired CAA ICON Exec VP Dan Barrett, who has "consulted for other cities in their stadium negotiation" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 6/5).
