Univ. Of Texas Football Could Eclipse 62,500 Season-Ticket Sales Record

The Univ. of Texas said that football season ticket sales are "likely to pass 60,000" this season, "nearing the all-time high of about 62,500" set in '10, according to Brian Davis of the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN. UT is currently at a 97% renewal rate and "added 6,000 more new season ticket sales." Sales begin tomorrow for the "general public, but there may not be many glamorous seats left." UT Exec Senior Associate AD/External Affairs Drew Martin said the "initial goal was 60,000." However, Davis noted once AD Chris Del Conte saw how well sales were going, he "moved the goal post back again -- raising the department's goal to 65,000 season tickets." Meanwhile, UT officials "still haven't figured out all of the moving parts associated with game day," as Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium's south end zone expansion project will "change various aspects." A construction crew has "already demolished 4,000 bleacher seats that held UT students last season." Del Conte and Martin said that they want to "make sure nothing else is removed," just "reworked." The renovations also mean that gates 1 and 32 on the southern corners of the stadium "will be closed to pedestrian traffic" this year (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, 6/5).
