An announcement is "expected next week" that the Braves and SunTrust Park will host the '21 MLB All-Star Game, according to Tim Tucker of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION. Should that announcement come, the Braves are "planning an All-Star celebration featuring many of their former All-Star players, including Hank Aaron, Chipper Jones, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, Phil Niekro and others, at SunTrust Park and The Battery Atlanta before Wednesday’s game" against the Nationals. The Braves "long have been working on a bid" to host the All-Star Game at their new ballpark. The All-Star game has "been played in Atlanta twice" -- in '72 and in '00. The Braves "previously submitted a bid to host" the '20 All-Star Game, which was awarded last year to Dodger Stadium. During that bid process, though, the Braves also "made it known to MLB that they were interested" in the '21 game, which they viewed as "probably a better fit for Atlanta’s sports schedule" (AJC.com, 5/24).
