People & Personalities: Ex-WEEI Host Minihane Leaves Entercom

In Boston, Chad Finn reported WEEI-AM's Kirk Minihane, who left the station in November, has announced that he is "no longer an employee of parent company Entercom." Minihane had "been in limbo since departing the 'Kirk and Callahan' program, where he was a co-host" since '13. He was "supposed to host his own show on the Entercom-owned Radio.com app, and was still producing his popular podcast, 'Enough About Me.'" However, the Radio.com role was "slow to materialize, and last week Minihane gave the company an ultimatum with a Periscope video in which he said he wanted his own channel on Radio.com" (BOSTONGLOBE.com, 5/22).

NOT DONE YET? In Pittsburgh, Tim Benz noted there has been "much speculation" about the future of Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger's show on KDKA-FM, but it appears Roethlisberger is "still considering keeping the program alive." He said, "We talk a lot about it with my family and my agents and the Steelers. I think people like it. That we can give some inside access. We’ll make a final decision moving forward." Roethlisberger on the in-season show prefers "giving his own spin, in a controlled environment, on his terms, on Tuesdays, before speaking with the general media once a week on Wednesdays" (TRIBLIVE.com, 5/21).

RADIO NOTES: Former BYU QB Riley Nelson "will replace Marc Lyons" as an analyst on the school's football radio broadcasts. Lyons retired at the end of the '18 season "after a 38-year career in the booth." Nelson will "team with play-by-play commentator Greg Wrubell, who is entering his 19th season" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 5/22)...."The Ben & Woods Show," which aired on San Diego's The Mighty 1090 (XEPRS-AM) for 13 months "before the station was shut down last month, will resurface" at KWFN-FM beginning June 10. Ben Higgins and Steven Woods "will take over" the 5:00-9:00am PT slot on KWFN-FM (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 5/23)....Marlins radio announcer Dave Van Horne is "skipping 20 games this season, with Gaby Sanchez and Jeff Nelson among those filling in" for the 79-year-old (MIAMIHERALD.com, 5/20).
