The Rockets' official Twitter account was suspended yesterday afternoon, and a team spokesperson said that the temporary suspension was "due to a few prior social media posts with copyrighted music," according to Janelle Griffith of NBCNEWS.com. A Twitter spokesperson also confirmed that the account was "'affected' due to copy right infringement." According to Twitter's rules and policies, the company "reserves the right to suspend accounts or 'take other appropriate action when someone's brand or trademark, including business name and/or logo, is used in a manner that may mislead or confuse others about your brand affiliation'" (NBCNEWS.com, 5/20). USA TODAY's Jace Evans noted the Rockets "don't appear to be the only sports team whose account has been temporarily disabled in the face of 'Digital Millenium Copyright Act' complaints." Accounts representing Auburn's and Rutgers' football teams also "appeared to go offline" yesterday, while accounts for Univ. of Iowa football and gymnastics and Iowa State football "experienced a similar fate over the weekend" (USATODAY.com, 5/20).
