Franchise Notes

In Boston, Steve Bulpett writes the Celtics will "have the option to undergo a major roster renovation" this offseason, and President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge and his staff will "need to make some very large decisions in short order." Celtics Dir of Player Personnel Austin Ainge, Danny Ainge's son, said that his father is "very much looking forward to staying on the job" after suffering a mild heart attack earlier this month. There are some "big dominoes to fall for the Celtics," and Danny Ainge will be "making the calls." Austin Ainge said that there will be "no change at the top of the Celtics basketball ops chart" (BOSTONHERALD.com, 5/17).

SIGNS OF LIFE: YAHOO SPORTS' Doug McIntyre wrote the "most promising part" of the Revolution hiring former USMNT coach Bruce Arena as coach and Sporting Dir is that it "signals that the Kraft family (which owns the team) actually cares about its soccer operation." McIntyre: "To what degree? That part remains to be seen." Arena will have "money to spend, that much is clear." But he "sure won't have the budget he did" in L.A. or even DC (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 5/17).

STAR POWER: In Las Vegas, Alan Snel noted the "excitement" over the WNBA Aces trading for C Liz Cambage has "caused a spike in ticket sales." Aces Assistant GM Christine Monjer said Cambage has had an "impactful" effect on ticket sales. Monjer said that she "did not know the number of tickets sold" because of Cambage's acquisition." However, sources said that 60 new season-ticket deals "were sold over the weekend" (LVSPORTSBIZ.com, 5/19).
