ESPN's Bob Ley Discusses His Break From The Net And What's Next

Ley, who has been at ESPN since '79, has taught two master classes at Seton Hall in his time awayESPN IMAGES

ESPN's Bob Ley recently extended his six-month break from the network, and he said the net "has been magnificent" in how it is handling the situation, according to Jerry Carino of the ASBURY PARK PRESS. The long-time ESPN presence -- he has been at the net since it first went on air in '79 -- began his sabbatical in October. During that time, he taught two master classes at Seton Hall, and he will "deliver the university’s commencement address" on Monday at Prudential Center. Ley said, "It’s a very humbling invitation. ... I hope I’ll be able to offer some useful advice." He added, "As dark and as binary as everything seems, I would love to be 22 coming out of school with the world at my feet." While he "doesn’t see himself teaching full-time, he’s enjoyed the master classes and is open to doing more." Ley said of what else has been occupying his time, "Eating and sleeping normally, exercising, spending time with my grandkids, doing a little traveling. It’s been great." As for when he will be back on air in Bristol? He said, "We’ll see what happens" (ASBURY PARK PRESS, 5/16).
