The WNBA has hired Deloitte CEO CATHY ENGELBERT to be the league's new Commissioner, according to a source cited by Doug Feinberg of the AP. Engelbert, who has led Deloitte US since '15, replaces LISA BORDERS, who "stepped down in October." NBA Deputy Commissioner & COO MARK TATUM has "been the interim president since Borders left." Engelbert, who played college basketball at Lehigh, becomes the fifth top WNBA exec in the league's history, following VAL ACKERMAN, DONNA ORENDER, LAUREL RICHIE and Borders. One thing Engelbert "will have to deal with relatively quickly" is the current CBA, which expired after this season. The players opted out of the current contract at the end of last season (AP, 5/15). In Chicago, Madeline Kenney notes the WNBPA has "gained support from NBA players as the women push for wage increases and transparency with the league’s revenue, among other issues" (SUNTIMES.com, 5/15).
