Audience Analysis: Championship Sunday Helps EPL To Season Uptick

NBC Sports averaged a total audience delivery of 457,000 viewers for the ’18-19 EPL season, up 2% from 449,000 last season and up from 447,000 viewers two seasons ago. Championship Sunday was the difference this year, as NBC Sports was flat heading into last weekend. But with the title on the line on the last day for the first time since ’13-14, solid numbers for NBC and NBCSN pushed the league average into positive territory. NBC averaged 854,000 TV-only viewers for Sunday’s Wolverhampton-Liverpool match, while NBCSN averaged 443,000 viewers for Manchester City-Brighton. For the complete season across NBC and NBCSN, DC retook the top spot among U.S. markets for game telecasts, followed by Baltimore, which was No. 1 last season.

ROAD RULES: NBC on Saturday afternoon drew 1.1 million viewers for the broadcast network’s first-ever NTT IndyCar Series race. That figure is the best mark for the Grand Prix of Indianapolis road course race since the inaugural edition on ABC back in ’14 (1.2 million viewers). A season-to-date comparison for NBC Sports’ first season with IndyCar may still need some time, as ABC carried the season opener last year and NBCSN carried the opener this year. ABC carried five races last year, and NBC will have its fifth race on June 23 (and then three races after that).

The chart below lists final audience figures from select recent sports telecasts.
