Coyotes Saw Record Ticket Sales, Bumps In Attendance, Local Ratings

The Coyotes "set a franchise record" this season for total ticket sales, and saw total gate revenue increase about 9% over last season, another "franchise record," according to Brandon Brown of the PHOENIX BUSINESS JOURNAL. Despite the increased ticket sales, the Coyotes "still had the third-lowest home attendance in the NHL," with an average of 13,989. However, that average is "more than 7% higher" than the '17-18 season. The team was also "able to increase its premium seating revenue" by 21% this season. Coyotes President & CEO Ahron Cohen said that the Coyotes' 26% increase in local TV ratings was the "seventh-highest among the NHL's U.S. clubs." The Coyotes also "ranked third in the NHL in terms of social media engagement rates," behind only the Golden Knights and Hurricanes. Cohen said that some of the team's social media posts were "able to catch the attention of outside companies," and the Coyotes even sold sponsorships on "social media content." The team was able to "increase its total sponsorship revenue" by nearly 10% during the season. Meanwhile, for FY '19, the Arizona Coyotes Foundation and the team "will give more than" $3M, which includes "hockey PE curriculum to local schools, construction of a playground and a $250,000 donation for a hospital wing at Phoenix Children's Hospital" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 5/14).
