People & Personalities: More Female Talent Balancing Work, Family Lives

PRO SOCCER USA's Alicia DelGallo noted Fox Sports sideline reporter Katie Witham last year "didn't know what to expect as a pregnant woman in the male-dominated industry of sports broadcasting," but so far, "all is going well." Witham "returned to work four and 1/2 weeks after her son was born." The prospect of motherhood and how it might affect her career "scared Witham at first, and she delayed starting a family because of it." Witham had "few examples of pregnant sideline reporters to emulate" (PROSOCCERUSA.com, 5/12). In San Diego, Bryce Miller noted ESPN sideline reporter Kris Budden "sat out the second half of the most recent college basketball season for the birth of her second child." Budden said, "ESPN has been great. How many companies put up with me missing the second half of the season?" (SAN DIEGO UNION TRIBUNE, 5/12).

HELP WANTED: THE ATHLETIC's Fred Katz reported NBC Sports Washington is "preparing to interview multiple candidates for its open play-by-play job calling Wizards games." Sources said that NFL Network's Dan Hellie and NBC Sports Bay Area's Dave Feldman are "scheduled to interview by the end of the month." A source said that there are "currently 12 total candidates in contention for the gig" (THEATHLETIC.com, 5/11).

INTERN FOR A DAY: In St. Paul, Jace Frederick notes T'Wolves G Josh Okogie has an "interest in entering the broadcasting realm post-playing days," which is "part of the reason why he jumped at the chance to spend a full day -- roughly 11 hours -- at the NBA TV set through the league's career crossover job shadow program." The internship day "gave Okogie a glimpse into what all goes into those broadcasts" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 5/13).
