Rapper 2 Chainz has "agreed to an ownership stake" in the Hawks’ G League team, the College Park Skyhawks, joining him to an ownership group led by Hawks Principal Owner & Chair Tony Ressler, according to Chris Vivlamore of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION. 2 Chainz is a "life-long fan of the Hawks" who "often sits courtside at games and has twice performed at the Hawks’ in-game concert series." 2 Chainz "plans to use his new position as a platform." He said, "I’m able to use my platform to inspire the youth." The move to bring on 2 Chainz, which was first discussed in '16, is part of the Hawks' "ongoing effort to push the envelope in sports, to be relevant." Hawks CEO Steve Koonin: “We love trying to be different and trying to differentiate ourselves. We like trying to intersect pop culture and entertainment. … It’s all part of our DNA." The Skyhawks will begin play next season at Gateway Center in College Park, Ga., a "new multi-purpose sports and entertainment arena" that holds 5,000 for concerts and 3,500 for basketball games (AJC.com, 5/10).
