Superdome Renovation Would Vastly Improve Venue's Food Service

One of the main jobs in Phase 1 of the project is building a new commissary and freight elevatorsGETTY IMAGES

State of Louisiana and Saints officials said that improving the food service at Mercedes-Benz Superdome is "one of the main goals" of the proposed $450M renovation project, according to Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans TIMES-PICAYUNE. One of the "main jobs in Phase 1 of the project is the construction of a new commissary." The new commissary and freight elevators will allow vendors to transport food throughout the building "faster and more efficiently." The result should be "improved food quality and service in the suites and club lounges." Concession stands will also "feature more offerings." Officials believe the changes will also "improve events and game-day activities at the nearby Smoothie King Center." Duncan noted the Superdome's contract with Centerplate "expires in two years." Meanwhile, one of the benefits of starting the renovation in '20 will be the "ability to market the naming rights to the renovated stadium." The Saints’ current deal with Mercedes-Benz expires in '21. Team officials are already "shopping the deal to prospective clients" (New Orleans TIMES-PICAYUNE, 5/11).
