Braves' Q1 Revenue Dips From Last Year With No March Home Games

Three regular-season Braves home games in March '17 resulted in about $6M more in revenue than this yearGETTY IMAGES

The Braves posted a decline in Q1 revenue this year "due to opening the season on the road," according to Tim Tucker of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION. The team had revenue of $22M in the Jan.-March quarter, compared to $28M in the same period last year. The Braves had no regular-season home games in March this year, compared to three in March '18. Of the $22M in revenue, team owner Liberty Media said that $14M "came from baseball sources" and $8M from The Battery Atlanta. Liberty Media President & CEO Greg Maffei said that the Braves "benefited financially" in full-year '18 from such factors as "a favorable home schedule, a team that was in contention throughout the regular season, a playoff berth and non-game special events." How some of those factors develop this season "remains to be seen" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 5/10).
