USA Gymnastics' Li Li Leung Discusses Future Of Organization

USA Gymnastics President & CEO Li Li Leung, since being hired in February, has already been "dealing with a series of crises -- including some of her own making" that continue to "raise serious questions about the long-term viability" of the organization, according to Tim Evans of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. Leung got off to a "relatively smooth start," but in recent weeks has "experienced some of the heat that helped take out her predecessors." Leung gave an interview to the Indianapolis Star last week, which marked the first time a USAG leader "agreed to speak with IndyStar reporters since their investigation" into sexual abuse began in early '16. Leung said she wants gymnasts to "feel incredibly safe in the environment that they're performing and training in." She added that since being hired she has "sat down and met with every single staff member and have given them at least 30 minutes of my time to get to know them." Leung said from an organizational standpoint she is working on "instituting a systematic value system, which will help us in terms of determining how we operate and guide us how we operate on a daily basis." Meanwhile, Leung said USAG has "no plans to leave" Indianapolis, where its HQ is currently located (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 5/5). Leung in an opinion piece for the Indianapolis Star wrote about her her vision for USAG under the header, "We Know We Have A Lot Of Work To Do" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 5/5).
