Union Start Process Of Stadium District Development Planning

Nearly 20 architectural firms were asked in April to submit ideas and analysis for the new districtTALEN ENERGY STADIUM

The Union's parent company, Keystone Sports & Entertainment, is "launching development plans" to create a new space around Talen Energy Stadium, according to Caitlin McCabe of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. In partnership with the Riverfront Alliance of Delaware County, Keystone "asked nearly 20 architectural firms in April to submit ideas and analysis for a 'Chester Waterfront Master Plan.'" Union Chief Business Officer Tim McDermott said that the groups are "aiming to create a sports-and-entertainment and health-and-wellness campus." McCabe noted the goal is to "have a master plan within three months" (PHILLY.com, 5/2). Riverfront Alliance BOD President Tom Shoemaker said that the effort has "received proposals" from 10 of the firms. He added that those proposals are "now being reviewed, and a smaller group of finalists will be invited back to make more formal proposals." McDermott said "no other sports team in the Philadelphia area" has a campus like what the Union are planning. In Philadelphia, George & Kostelni noted the goal of the development is to "make the area, which includes the 18,500-seat soccer stadium and 400,000-square-foot Wharf office building" into "more than just a place to watch a soccer match or go to work" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 5/2).
