Mighty 1090 Afternoon Show To Continue Airing From Callaway HQ

San Diego-based XEPRS-AM's afternoon show with Scott Kaplan and Billy Ray Smith is "set to run as usual" from 3:00-6:00pm PT for the foreseeable future from Callaway Golf’s HQ in Carlsbad, Calif., despite going off the air last month and losing its internet stream yesterday, according to Andrew Bucholtz of AWFUL ANNOUNCING. Kaplan said that Callaway "reached out to provide a way for them to keep connecting" with fans. Kaplan said, "They’ve offered it to us for as long as we want. We can broadcast from there on the streams that we were using, like Twitter and YouTube, and we can keep ourselves on the air ... for the immediate future." Callaway Media Productions Exec Producer Jeff Neubarth said that he and Callaway Global Dir of Product Strategy, Woods & Golf Ball Jason Finley "got the idea to reach out to Kaplan" after learning of the station's shutdown (AWFULANNOUNCING.com 4/30). XEPRS host Ben Higgins said that he "hadn’t decided yet whether he would take Callaway up on its offer" to continue broadcasting his morning show with Steven Woods. Finley: "It’s not a forever solution." XEPRS parent Broadcast Company of the Americas up until this week had been "silent on the station’s collapse," but issued a statement yesterday "acknowledging its inability to salvage the station." BCA CEO Jay Meyers "declined to answer questions about how on-air talent’s contracts will be handled and whether there will be severance pay" (SAN DIEGO UNION TRIBUNE, 5/1).
