South Carolina Unveils More Details Of Williams-Brice Stadium Upgrades

The Univ. of South Carolina’s athletic department "moved one step closer" to spending $22.5M to "renovate Williams-Brice Stadium, and it is probably just the start of the money that eventually will be spent" on the venue, according to Josh Kendall of the Columbia STATE. The school's BOT yesterday approved Phase II plans for the project. Plans were first revealed in September, and the "jewel of the project is the 2001 Club, which will offer a field level view of the Gamecocks entering the playing field on Saturdays through a glass corridor." The setup will be similar to the Cowboys’ entrance at AT&T Stadium. The renovations are "scheduled to begin" as soon as the '19 home schedule is complete and will be ready in time for the '20 season. The project also includes the "addition of 9,000 square feet" of air-conditioned club space on the west side behind sections 101-105, 21,000 square feet of renovated area on the 400 level of the east side that will include new restrooms and concessions and a renovated club area for fans seated in sections 11-13 on the south side. South Carolina already has "commissioned a long-range study for future improvements to the stadium with Legends." Seating capacity of Williams-Brice Stadium, listed as 80,250, will be only "slightly affected by the changes" (Columbia STATE, 4/30).
