Impact players had to take the field against the Revolution just seven hours after leaving Montrealimpact
The Impact lobbied MLS to postpone last night's match against the Revolution after the team's charter was "delayed .... and didn't arrive in Boston until the afternoon," but the game went ahead as scheduled, according to the CP. Impact players "left Montreal seven hours before game time." The MLSPA on Twitter described the "incident as a debacle." The Impact's "travel woes" also included the team's planned Tuesday night commercial flight being cancelled (CP, 4/24). In Philadelphia, Jonathan Tannenwald noted the Impact's situation caused Union coach Jim Curtin to renew his call to MLS owners "to allow teams to fly charter more often." Curtin said, "We talk about the quality of play improving in the league, the quality of player that is coming into the league. I think the owners are in agreement with this: they want that asset protected." He added, "If you're not recovering right, you're going to have injuries. Charter flights, and the ability to get in and out of places quicker and more freely, really aid recovery more than anything." Tannenwald noted the Union's trip to Vancouver for Saturday's game against the Whitecaps is one of the team's "longest travel hauls" of the year. However, the Union will be flying commercial "because of MLS' strict limit on charter flights -- four travel legs per season" (PHILLY.com, 4/24).
