Blue Jays Hope To Make Most Of Vladimir Jr.'s Major-League Debut

Some believe Guerrero is already the face of the Blue Jays’ franchise before making his debutgetty images

Blue Jays 3B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will make his "much-anticipated major-league debut" tomorrow at Rogers Centre when the team begins a weekend series against the A's, and "just like that an early season series between two middling American League teams has turned into a must-see event," according to Robert MacLeod of the GLOBE & MAIL. Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said, "He’s been the No. 1 prospect in baseball. He’s coming Friday so it’s a big moment for us" (GLOBE & MAIL, 4/25). In Toronto, Rob Longley writes with the Maple Leafs eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs and the Raptors' next game not until Saturday night, "near sellout crowds are certainly possible" for the Blue Jays' three-game series (TORONTO SUN, 4/25). USA TODAY's Bob Nightengale writes Guerrero will "put fannies in the seats, and once again, make this Canadian franchise relevant." Even before his MLB debut, Guerrero is "already the face of the Blue Jays’ franchise." He "immediately will be must-see-TV with his prodigious power," as he is the "most talented and talked-about prospect in a generation" (USA TODAY, 4/25).
