UConn Basketball Using More AI, Technology To Help Improve Play

UConn purchased a half-court Noah Basketball system five years ago, a $2,600 piece of technology that has "been an aid in improving jump shots from around the top of the key," according to Dom Amore of the HARTFORD COURANT. UConn men's basketball Dir of Video & Scouting Tripp Doherty said the system has been "like having a watchful eye" over the team "all the time." The Noah system, which costs $4,800 for the full-court version, gathers information that can be "used to determine a player's most effective ways of shooting and spots on the floor." Doherty also has been "collecting information from schools using devices from Catapult Sports that can be worn around the neck, chest or torso that help coaches decide when fatigue is setting in." Doherty "sees a time in the future where artificial intelligence becomes part of the game, allowing coaches to consider adjustments before a game even begins" (HARTFORD COURANT, 4/18).
