S.F. Could Use Temporary Ferry Terminal For Chase Center Transit

The proposed ferry terminal is part of a larger transit plan to accommodate the new 18,000-seat arenachase center

S.F. officials have proposed the idea of using a "temporary ferry terminal" at Mission Rock to "pipe thousands of Warriors fans" to Chase Center once the arena opens this fall, according to Rachel Swan of the S.F. CHRONICLE. The terminal proposal still "needs to run through a long gauntlet of approvals," but if everything "aligns perfectly, it would open in time for the first game day in October -- and possibly as early as September." In two years time, the city "hopes to open a more substantial ferry landing" that would "serve commuters as well as sports revelers." Port of S.F. Senior Waterfront Planner David Beaupre "presented the new ferry service to the city's main transit board" on Tuesday as part of a "larger transit menu to accommodate" the 18,000-seat Chase Center. A review of Warriors season-ticket-holder demographics by the two ferry operators, Golden Gate Transit and the Water Emergency Transportation Authority, "showed that many live in port-side areas of Oakland, Alameda, Marin" and South S.F. Those demographics "intrigued some board directors" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 4/17).
