Source: TPG No Longer Interested In Buying SI From Meredith Corp.

Private equity firm TPG is "bowing out of the race" to buy SI from publisher Meredith Corp., according to a source cited by Keith Kelly of the N.Y. POST. A source said that former AOL CEO and News Corp. exec Jon Miller was "heading up the bid for TPG." Meanwhile, former NBAer Junior Bridgeman is interested in buying SI but is "having trouble raising the money." Kelly notes a "new mystery investment group from the sports world is said to be ready" to buy SI (N.Y. POST, 4/17).

Woods' text-free SI cover joins the company of historic events like the "Miracle On Ice"SI

NO CONTEXT NEEDED: SI.com's Scooby Axson noted Tiger Woods is "featured on the cover" of this week's Si following his Masters win. However, "unlike most SI covers, there is no text on the cover." There have only been a few covers in SI history "without any words on the front describing the person or event." One such occurrence was the March 3, 1980, issue after the U.S. men's hockey team "completed their upset victory over the Soviet Union in the 'Miracle on Ice.'" There was also "no text on the cover" of the '95 issue when Mickey Mantle died at the age of 63 (SI.com, 4/15).
