Daily Briefing: FanDuel’s N.J. Sportsbook Breaks Record, MUFC Campaigns Against Trolls

  • FanDuel’s New Jersey Sportsbook Broke Revenue Records in March: FanDuel’s New Jersey sportsbook generated $17.5 million in revenue for the month of March, the highest single-month revenue number ever recorded for a sports betting operator since the state legalized sports betting in June. FanDuel has now churned out the highest revenues among New Jersey sports betting operators for back-to-back months, as the company looks to overtake DraftKings as the top betting provider in the state. The total sports wagering gross revenue for all operators in New Jersey was $31.7 million for March.
  • Manchester United Campaigns Against Offensive Social Media Posts: British soccer team Manchester United unveiled an anti-discrimination film prior to its match against West Ham this past Saturday. The film was part of the club’s “All Red All Equal” marketing campaign and features members of the men’s and women’s teams reacting to discriminatory social media posts. The club’s website and social media are also featuring anti-discrimination messaging and promoting the #allredallequal campaign.
  • STATS and DAZN’s Perform Combine to Create New Company: Sports data analysis firm STATS LLC has merged together with Perform, DAZN Group’s data and sports content subsidiary. The deal, enabled through an investment from Vista Equity Partners, will create a new global sports data intelligence company. DAZN Group will receive a minority stake in the newly formed company, plus funds it plans to use to boost its streaming portfolio. “Bringing Perform into the fold will create the most advanced artificial intelligence company in sports, providing deeper, more robust data and insights,” said STATS LLC CEO Carl Mergele, in a press release.
  • Twitch Launches Own Game, Karaoke-Style Twitch Sings: Video game streaming platform Twitch announced the launch of its own game during TwitchCon Berlin on Saturday. Twitch Sings is an interactive free karaoke-style game designed for live streaming. The game includes thousands of song choices for users to sing alone or with another person. Viewers can request songs, cheer with emotes to activate light shows and virtual ovations, and send in “singing challenges” to the streamer during their performance, according to TechCrunch.
  • LocalLive Partners With PLAAY Sports to Automate High School Sports Video Editing: Sports video platform LocalLive announced a new deal with artificial intelligence video editing company PLAAY Sports. LocalLive uses remotely operated 4G digital cameras to capture footage of high school sports. PLAAY Sports will automate the editing process of LocalLives’s streamed and VOD content. The companies have released an iOS app that allows users to create their own video highlight reels using footage from LocalLive’s live streamed events and video library.
