HOF Has Grand Plans In '20 For 100th NFL Season Celebration

Next year will mark the 100th anniversary of "what would become" the NFL, and the Pro Football HOF plans to mark the September '20 anniversary in "grand style with a multi-day Centennial Celebration," according to Susan Glaser of the Cleveland PLAIN DEALER. Organizers hope the event will be "bigger than the Super Bowl, featuring thousands of former NFL players and Olympic-style theatrics." Event details have "not been finalized." But HOF Chief of Staff and VP/Communications Pete Fierle said that "every former NFL player -- the hall calls them 'legends' -- will be invited." Fierle estimates "between 5,000 and 10,000 will attend." The marquee event will be "something similar to an Olympics opening ceremony." Fierle said that activities "will likely run Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020, through Saturday or Sunday, Sept. 20 or 21." The actual anniversary is Sept. 17 (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 4/14).
