WNBA's Storm Experience Financial Boon From Last Year's Title Win

Following last year's WNBA championship, the Seattle Storm is being "buoyed by a surge of new interest that could help it win a financial crown," according to Chris Talbott of the SEATTLE TIMES. Following the Storm's '18 championship, there is "buzz about the team’s realistic pursuit of a second consecutive title." Fans have "responded with increased ticket and merchandise sales" in the six months since winning the title. Storm Senior VP Ticket Sales & Services Kyle Waters said, “It’s similar to the growth that we experienced in 2011. When we won the championship in 2010, the next year was one of our best growth years from attendance and ticket sales and viewership and merchandise, all of that." Talbott notes the Storm is "No. 1 in the league in merchandise sales, boosted by a record-breaking 48-hour period following the championship victory." The team is "approaching 1,000 new season-ticket purchases," combined with its "usual" 80% renewal rate. Waters said that the team could "sell more than 2,500 new season tickets" this year (SEATTLE TIMES, 4/11).
