Kingsmill LPGA Event Changing Things Up Under New Title Sponsor

The LPGA event at Kingsmill Resort last summer signed a three-year title sponsorship deal with Pure Silk, which keeps the tournament in Willamsburg, Va., through '21, and also bring "changes -- some more subtle than others -- to the tournament’s look," according to David Hall of the Hampton Roads DAILY PRESS. One of the biggest changes at this year's event, which begins May 20, is that "conventional concessions will not be sold." Instead, six local food trucks "will be on site." Additionally, a "new vehicle entrance for fans will be located closer to the resort entrance, and the skyboxes surrounding Kingsmill’s greens will have more color and be laid out differently." Longtime attendees also "might notice some landscaping differences." Tournament Dir Matthew Schulze said that "several branding strategies were discussed before organizers settled on the tournament’s full, official name: The Pure Silk Championship presented by Visit Williamsburg." Visit Williamsburg is the area’s tourism arm. Next month's event "will mark the 37th consecutive year Williamsburg will have held a pro golf tournament," and it will be the "first not sponsored by the owner of the resort" (Hampton Roads DAILY PRESS, 4/10).
