Black Gold: PXG Signs Gary Player To Club Deal Ahead Of Masters

Gary Player "has a new club deal" after signing on as PXG's latest ambassador, according to Erik Matuszewski of FORBES. Player this week "will have a PXG driver in his hands when he hits his ceremonial opening tee shot" Thursday morning at Augusta National Golf Club, while he will have PXG’s irons, wedges and putter "in his bag as he plays the annual par-3 contest" tomorrow. PXG Founder Bob Parsons has "long been a shrewd marketer," but in an era when "major club manufacturers are vying to sign the top young professional golfers in the world, few could have seen the partnership with Player coming." Player this week will also be "using a new ball." He has joined OnCore Golf as an investor and will "play the company’s ELIXR ball in the par-3 tournament as well as on his opening drive" (FORBES.com, 4/9).
