Severed Snake Logo Returning As Part Of 76ers' Playoff Campaign

The marketing campaign will include banners that will be hung around the region76ERS

The 76ers are "bringing back their 'Phila Unite' campaign, complete with its severed snake logo, as the team prepares for its second playoff run in as many years," according to John George of the PHILADELPHIA BUSINESS JOURNAL. Sixers President of Business Operations Chris Heck said that what makes the team's campaign "unique is sports teams typically don’t make big changes to their logo and branding come playoff time." The severed snake is a "reference to Ben Franklin’s 'Join or Die' cartoon published in the Pennsylvania Gazette in 1754." The snake was "supposed to represent the divided colonies, which could be stronger" if they "came together for a common cause." The marketing campaign will "involve social media, team merchandise, arena signage [on] the floor of the court, and banners that will be hung around the region." The team will also be announcing "viewing parties for games and events at Xfinity Live! before home games once the playoff schedule is finalized." The campaign will be "global in scope so the team can reach its growing fan bases" in Australia, where G Ben Simmons was born, and China (BIZJOURNALS.com, 4/9).

TRUST THE PROGRESS: In Philadelphia, Marcus Hayes notes the 76ers promoted former WNBAer Lindsey Harding from pro scout to player development coach, making her the "seventh female assistant coach the NBA has seen" and the "first female coach in franchise history." The 76ers hired Harding to scout last summer, but "something like this was inevitable." This is "just the next step on what the team is sure will be in a fast, fruitful climb" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 4/9).
