The canopy and enclosed bowl bounces down light and sound, and is aimed at keeping energy insideFC CINCINNATI
FC Cincinnati's new stadium will include a canopy that "extends over every seat" and feature a "full bowl rather than one with open ends," according to a front-page piece by Sharon Coolidge of the CINCINNATI ENQUIRER. These details were "revealed for the first time in a light and sound study done by the team and submitted to the City of Cincinnati." The canopy and enclosed bowl "bounces down light and sound," and is aimed at "keeping energy -- and noise -- inside the stadium." Limiting noise and light will also "help alleviate neighborhood concerns." Previous renderings showed a "partial canopy and a stadium completely wrapped in ETFE, short for ethylene tetrafluoroethylene, a plastic that glows." ETFE is similar to what is "featured on Allianz Field." Other documents provided to the city by the team "continue to show a development" near the stadium. A two-story team store will be "located in that development as well as office and retail space and possibly a hotel, though no decisions have been made on the latter." Last week, FC Cincinnati announced it had "replaced architectural firm Meis with Populous" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 4/4).
IF YOU BUILD IT: USL club Sacramento Republic FC released "new architectural renderings" this week of what a new stadium might look like as the city continues its bid to join MLS as an expansion team. Republic FC President & COO Ben Gumpert in a statement said, "The additions to the existing stadium design provide an even better fan experience, including 360-degree circulation and lookout points from our stadium to our river and our downtown skyline." The updated stadium plans also "include canopy-level seating" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 4/4).
